Libido mismatch
When two partners naturally want intimacy at different frequencies or intensities — a common, workable difference rather than a sign that something is wrong.
What libido mismatch means
Libido mismatch — sometimes called desire discrepancy — is simply when two partners have different levels of interest in intimacy. One person may want closeness more often, or feel it more readily, than the other. It is one of the most common things couples navigate, and on its own it says nothing about love, attraction, or whether a relationship is healthy. Desire naturally rises and falls with stress, sleep, hormones, medication, mood, and life stage, so almost every couple is mismatched at least some of the time.
Responsive vs. spontaneous desire
A lot of mismatch is really a difference in how desire shows up. Spontaneous desire appears on its own, seemingly out of nowhere. Responsive desire builds in reaction to warmth, connection, or the right context — it needs a reason to arrive. Neither is more valid. When one partner leans spontaneous and the other responsive, it can look like a gap in wanting when it is actually a gap in timing and setup. Naming which pattern fits each of you often takes the pressure off both people.
Navigating it as a couple
Mismatch becomes a problem mostly when it goes unspoken and each person fills the silence with a worst-case story — feeling rejected, or feeling constantly pressured. The way through is honest, low-stakes conversation: talking about what you each enjoy, what gets in the way, and what closeness can look like beyond a single definition. There is no correct frequency to aim for; the goal is a rhythm that respects both people's real feelings, always grounded in enthusiastic consent rather than obligation. Persistent distress is worth raising with a doctor or a certified sex therapist.
Understanding your own pattern with Fervra
It's hard to talk about desire when you can't remember how the last few weeks actually went. Fervra lets you privately note how you feel over time — energy, mood, and the conditions that tend to help or hinder closeness — so patterns become visible instead of guessed at. That private record can make a check-in with your partner far more honest and specific. Everything is private by default, and shared only if, and exactly as, you choose.
