Position

The Bridge

Also known as archbackbendyoga bridge

The Bridge is an advanced position where the receiving partner lifts their hips into a bridge or backbend while the other kneels — dramatic, intense, and brief.

The gist

A showstopper that takes real core and flexibility: the receiving partner presses into a bridge, lifting the hips high, while the other kneels close to meet the raised angle. It's demanding to hold, so it's a short, striking moment rather than a sustained position.

Step by step

  1. The receiving partner lies back, plants their feet, and lifts hips into a bridge.

  2. The other kneels close to meet the raised hips.

  3. Support the receiving partner's lower back with your hands.

  4. Keep it brief and lower down together with control.

Tips

  • Cushions under the shoulders and support at the lower back make it safer to hold.
  • Only attempt this if the bridge is already comfortable for the receiving partner.
