The Butterfly

Also known as hips raisedpillow liftelevated hips

The Butterfly raises the receiving partner's hips on a pillow or the edge of a surface while the other stands or kneels — an easy way to get a deeper angle without strain.

The gist

A simple, effective tweak: elevating the hips on a firm pillow or the edge of a bed tilts the pelvis for a deeper, more direct angle while the receiving partner stays comfortably on their back. It's low-effort and endlessly adjustable by adding or removing support.

Step by step

  1. The receiving partner lies back with a firm pillow under the hips.

  2. The other kneels or stands close, meeting the raised angle.

  3. Rest the receiving partner's legs on shoulders, around the waist, or on the bed.

  4. Add or remove pillows to tune the angle and depth.

Tips

  • A firm cushion holds the lift better than a soft one that collapses.
  • It's a great option when you want depth without anyone straining to hold a pose.
